Sometimes change happens because of the situation,
and sometimes people with ‘Great will-power’ makes it happen. And the story of
Beronica will definitely inspire you and force you to think in a broader
aspect.
Beronica belongs to village- Reshia (Kolebira) of District Simdega born
in a very poor family. Poverty and helplessness forced her to indulge in selling
local liquor to earn some money. She was engaged in this work from last 10-12
years. All was going well until she faced some health issues and admitted to
hospital. Doctor said that her continuous contact with local liquor made her
ill and suggested to keep her away from such things. As it was her only source of income she was in
a dilemma whether to give priority to her health or to earn money for her
family. As she is uneducated and not comfortable in doing other work she was
left with no option.

Then she got to know about Sakhi Mandal, she came in
contact with CRP Didi and Didi motivated and guided her how to earn her
livelihood. After joining ‘Jyoti sakhi mandal’ she learnt 2 most important
thing of life, she says- “saving is the only help of future, and education
is the most important assets of life”.
After joining Sakhi Mandal formed by JSLPS, she took
small loans and streamlined her farming by purchasing good quality seeds and some
equipment for farming. It helped a little to increase her income and also gave her
strength to fight against poverty. But the biggest change that took place in
her life is overcoming her health issue.
Now, to change her life she decided to take big loan
and invest in some productive business. She asked for a loan of Rs 20,000 in
the meeting of Sakhi Mandal. The proposal of piggery was appreciated by women of
Sakhi mandal and hence approved the loan. Beronica purchased a total of 10 pigs
and she utilized the rest amount to feed them. She recently sold 3 pigs for
16-18 thousand rupee each which helped her to increase her income as well as
her lifestyle.
Today Beronica is very bold and determined, she is
now able to send her children to English medium school for quality education. Beronica’s
future plan is to take more loans for Goatery. She was a victim of Alcohal and
she suffered a lot, so she always aware and motivate people around her to stop
the consumption of alcohol.
Beronica
says, “As the idea of joining sakhi mandal changed my life, I want to
contribute a little in changing others life too”.
