Changing lives through DDU-GKY Skill Training
Changing lives through DDU-GKY Skill Training
Chandramani
Kumari from Silam village of Gumla district was a school dropout after class 8th
and belongs to a poor tribal family of 10 people. In her family she has her
Mother, Father, Grandmother and 6 siblings (2 sisters and 4 brothers). Her
father is a marginal farmer and with the poor family’s income of Rs. 60-70
thousand per year, the family faces a lot of financial crisis. Chandramani’s
mother and grandmother are often ill and family’s income was not enough for
their treatment, apart from meeting basic livelihood need of such a large
family.
But
today Chandramani Kumari is independent and working as a sewing machine
operator at Shahi Exports Pvt Ltd, Bangalore and earning 9,200 Rs per month. She
has now doubled the income of her family. She is a source of motivation for her
village. Her family is very proud of her as relatives & neighbours are motivated
and willing to send their children to skill training centre under DDU-GKY. Her
success may not be possible without the skills what she got from DDU-GKY.
“If
the training costs me any penny then it would be impossible for me to join the
programme. But as the whole training was free of cost including Food and
accommodation, I’m thankful to DDU-GKY for changing lives of many needy like
me.” Says- Chandramani Kumari
As
her mother is a member of Sakhi Mandal she got to know about the skill training
under DDU-GKY programme implemented by JSLPS, Rural Development Department. And
after getting in touch with the mobilization team, Chandramani was quite
motivated & excited to join the programme. She then never knew that it will be such a life
changing decision for her as she was not aware of sewing machine, in fact she haven’t
seen a Sewing Machine till then. But her will power and support from her family
made it possible.
She
got motivated and gained confidence from the quality training & life
experience she had at I D Tech Solutions Pvt Ltd. She later convinced her
parents who were a bit sceptical in sending her to different city and now she
is the first one from her family who is working outstation. She went for OJT
and later joined Shahi Exports Pvt Ltd at Bangalore.
Chandramani
said that, “The only reason behind my happiness is that now I am able to
help on my mother’s medicine and treatment.”
